Eva Dema

I’m a literary critic with a particular interest in the long nineteenth century. My first book project, Moments of Revision: Thomas Hardy and the Making of a Modern Manuscript, is based on my doctoral research and marks the first book-length study of Hardy’s poetry manuscripts. My second book project is rooted in working class poetry of the mid-nineteenth century, and is particularly interested in the idea of ‘solidarity’. I completed my BA, MPhil, and PhD at the University of Cambridge, passing my viva without correction in September 2025. During my PhD, I was also a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University and held the William H. Helfand Fellowship at the Grolier Club of New York. As a state-educated first-generation scholar, I’m also particularly interested in issues relating to access to higher education, and welcome contact from students and researchers from other underrepresented backgrounds.

My academic work has been published in the Review of English Studies, Essays in Criticism, The Cambridge Quarterly, Victorian Poetry, and English: Journal of the English Association, and is forthcoming from English Literary History and the Journal of Modern Literature.
