Former Junior Fellow James Nieh receives the Hambleton Award for Excellence in Apicultural Research
The Eastern Apicultural Society of North America (EAS) has named former Junior Fellow James Nieh (1998 - 2001), a professor at the University of California, San Diego, as the recipient of the 2025 Hambleton Award for Excellence in Apicultural Research, the highest honor bestowed by the Society. Established in 1973, the Hambleton Award recognizes outstanding scientists whose research has made significant and lasting contributions to the field of apiculture.
In announcing the award, the EAS highlighted the strong letters of support received from both academic peers and members of the beekeeping community. The Award Committee based its decision on Professor Nieh’s exceptional research record, his ability to integrate studies across multiple biological levels, and his success in translating fundamental discoveries into practical applications that address real-world challenges in beekeeping and pollinator health. The committee also commended his longstanding commitment to mentoring students and postdoctoral researchers, noting his dedication to cultivating the next generation of scientists in apicultural research.
